Another great book to review!

Updated: Aug 14

I was still recovering from the dark, intense, witchy tale of Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco, when I then went on to read Taming Demons for Beginners by Annette Marie. And I have to say, it was a great choice! I needed a lighter, entertaining read and Marie's book was perfect for the job!

The thing I love most about this book is the main character! Robin is totally someone I can relate to. She's nice, sweet, and needs to learn assertiveness in a big way. Having lost both of her parents, she goes to stay with her uncle who is the executor of her parents' estate, to await the release of her inheritance and most importantly, to receive her mother's grimoire. Six months later, she's still trying to work up the nerve to demand what is due her, and she tries, she really does, but her uncle is so intimidating!

When she finds a library in the basement of her uncle's home, she is exited at the new reading options, but what she doesn't expect to find is a witch's circle with a demon trapped inside. If only she hadn't brought her home baked cookies to snack on, and if only she hadn't dropped some into the circle. Because now she has the demon's attention. And even worse, her curiosity has been peaked.

How she ended up in a contract with the demon, where lives hinge on her ability to provide him with baked goods, is beyond her. But bake she must!

This is such a fun story! The demon's character was both endearing, and a real threat to everyone around him. The one person with any hope of trying to control him is an awkward, timid young woman who is determined to find her inner confidence. Putting these two characters together is a brilliant choice for the author, and it really pays off!

I give this story four and a half stars! I loved it, and look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Recommendations: I would recommend this book to readers aged thirteen and up. There is no sex, not even any kissing. The relationship between Robin and her demon is sweet and platonic, though there is the hint of some chemistry between them. There are very few, if any swear words. There is however, some bloody violence perpetrated by both men and demons--including people getting their throats ripped out, though I must say they kind of deserved it.
